The organizing committee of the inaugural Hugh Ross Classic Body Building Championships formally signed a sponsorship agreement with Banks DIH LTD yesterday for the event, which is scheduled for April 20, 2008.
The company told members of the media yesterday at a press briefing that although the terms of the sponsorship had not yet been finalized, they had agreed to sponsor the classic under the Plus Energy brand.
Anthony Lewis, Director of the Plus Energy brand at Banks DIH, said that his company was pleased to give assistance to this competition, and stated that the Plus Energy drink would be very suitable for use in the sport. “We are very pleased to be associated with such a prestigious event which serves to pay tribute to Hugh Ross. We have chosen to sponsor this event under the Plus Energy brand because it provides instant energy and is made from all-natural ingredients, not to mention being free of caffeine. All these attributes make the product suitable for consumption in a sport like this where there is high demand for energy,” he said.
Coordinator of athletes Leroy George said that the classic hopes to attract a large population of athletes and revealed that contingents from West Demerara and Berbice had already confirmed their participation.
The committee is also urging all athletes to register before March 30 which is the closing date for registration of athletes. Technical Director of the classic Andre Poonai said that the committee has planned some exciting events to make the event a memorable one. Poonai also said that Hugh Ross will be giving the special guest pose on the evening of the competition along with three other top competitors in the sport.
Stabroek Sport also understands that Ross will be making a few special visits on his return to the country, one of which will include a visit to the community of Eversham, Berbice, where he grew up.
Also on the organizing committee’s agenda is the Hugh Ross Classic Fitness Walk, which is scheduled to take place on April 13, 2008, starting at the Bank of Guyana and proceeding along a route which will be decided later by Hugh Ross.
