The Banks DIH- sponsored Coca Cola Masters football league will commence today at the Thirst Park Playfield with four matches.
The tournament which has been organized by the Twilight Masters Club will see a number of former football greats in action in the competition which has at stake over $500,000 in prizes.
The winning team will receive $200,000 while the second, third and fourth-placed teams will receive $125,000, $75,000 and $40,000 respectively.
The opening game at 3pm will pit Pele against Carib Masters. Pele Masters were runners-up in last year’s International Masters tournament sponsored by Banks DIH and their team will include Terry `Suzuki’ Nichols, Clive Perry, Cecil Jacques, Rawle `Overseas’ Jones and Dennis `Chow’ Hunte while Carib Masters will be led by Mikey Layne and Marlon De Souza.
In the second game, Georgetown Football Club (GFC) will clash with Santos.
The GFC team will be led by former national striker Adrian Forde with Phillip Carrington, Peter Lashley, Gary `Bubbler’ Nelson, David Best and Wayne `Spliser’ Williams supporting.
National coach Kavin Pearce will lead the line up for Santos, whose team will also include Shawn Nedd, Frank `English’ Parris, Ricky Salmon and Morgan Anthony.
The third game will bring together Thomas United against GT All Stars. The former team will be led by Earl O’Neal and will include players like Michael Pierre, Orin `Shortman’ Agard, Kevin Walcott and Brian `Postman’ Thompson while GT All Stars team will be led by the evergreen Terrence Archer and will include `Sir’ Anthony Stanton, Andrew `Flour Don’ Hazel, Jolyon Lewis, Linden `Meticks’ Rawlins, Selwyn `Dutch’ Rawlins, Nicky Thompson, Julian `Starry’ James and Ron Austin.
The final game will see Western Tigers taking on Rastafari Patriarchs. Western Tigers will be led by Patrice Ram while the Rastafarian side will include Vibert `Durdy’ Butts, Terrence `Turkey’ Burnett Neville `Natty’ Wiltshire, and Shawn `Cappy’ Jacobs.
The competition will continue on Tuesday.
