The Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVB) has begun preparations to participate in the 12th bi-annual Caribbean Volleyball championships set for the Wildey Gymnasium in Barbados from July 13-21.
The GVB has already shortlisted a squad of players from Demerara for training with a view to possible selection on the Guyana team and a squad of players from Berbice is set to be named shortly.
The Berbice squad will be trained by national coach and former national player, Levi Nedd.
According to a release from the GVB, it took the decision to participate in the tournament after receiving a “favourable response” from president of the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (Cazova) Mushtaque Mohammed.
However, the GVB would need to realize just over two million dollars, the release stated.
But it added that participating in the tournament would allow the players to compete at a high level while at the same time opening up access to the FIVB development centre being established in Barbados.
The Demerara players selected are Randy Adams, Michael Trapp, Khemraj Singh, Kapil Dev Samaroo, Christopher Ramsundar, Jermaine George, Kevin Vieira, Rajendra Kuraj, Trison Smith, Jermain Felix, Mark David, Imran Azeez, O. Seenauth, Seon Glasgow, Adolf Davis, Ian Wills, Dester Hoppie, Carlos Mc Almont, Aswell Mohabir, Corwin Richards, Rawle Duke, Dharanpaul Etwaroo, Bisram Baldeo, Travis Jackson, Junior Withrite, Intakab Showkatalli, Dwayne Bagot, Selwyn Collier, Ronson Bostwick and Jarryd Douglas.
Meanwhile, the members of this squad will meet today for their first major debriefing in preparation for the tournament.
