Coordinator of the Guyana Secondary Schools Basketball Association’s (GSSBA) Linden conference yesterday announced a list of fourteen players to represent them when they take on the Georgetown conference on March 19 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The two coaches who will be working with the squad for the all-star game are Colin Barker and Quincy Cummings.
Both coaches said yesterday that they were looking forward to working with the squad and were very confident of their chances coming against Georgetown.
Barker told Stabroek Sport that the Linden all-star squad included some explosive players who would have a significant impact on next Thursday’s all-star game.
“Well our team has some of the best players in the whole of Linden and the Georgetown players will need to watch out for some of our key weapons like Orin Rose Marvin, Russell and Akeem Khanai.”
Barker also said that he was hoping to get at least two or three quality practice sessions at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court, since it was the only proper basketball facility that they were able to access.
The fourteen players to begin training this weekend for the all-star squad are: Achebe Sampson and Stravin Ettiene of Wismar Christian Burg Multilateral, Horice Gurrick, Keon Cameron, Travis Leitch, Orin Rose and Jahson Braithwaite of Linden Technical Institute, Trimain Thomas, Michael Turner, Jermaine Ramsay, and Marvin Russell of New Silver City Secondary School and Omar Sam, Akeem, Khanai and Sheldon Noel of Mackenzie High School.
Although the starting five have not been announced, Stabroek Sport understands that Khanai, Rose and Russell are likely to start in the Linden backcourt.
