While there is no country on the continent which can afford not to denounce Colombia’s violation of Ecuador’s territory in pursuit of FARC’s number two man, Raúl Reyes, there must have been at least one or two Latin leaders who indulged themselves with the private thought that had they been in President Uribe’s shoes they too might have done what he did. And there is something else too. Neither Ecuador nor Venezuela – the latter particularly – has been playing by the international rules. While not naming a country, it was a point made cautiously last week by President Bachelet of Chile, who said that no nation had the right to interfere in the internal affairs of another.
