The Guyana Hockey Board’s Club Development Workshop conducted by Ana Vinue de Romanelli of Argentina under the auspices of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) got off to an impressive start Friday.
Apart from the local hockey fraternity, several sporting organisations have been invited to send representatives to participate in the workshop.
The programme covers a wide range of topics in its packed schedule including general club development and structure, junior development and recruiting, federation structure, roles and responsibilities, fundraising and marketing and promotion.
Prior to Guyana, several such workshops were held globally with great success and the GHB welcomed the opportunity as it is considered an area of particular weakness in hockey and many other sports locally.
Romanelli is an architect by profession but also sits on the FIH Development and Coaching Council.
She has been involved in hockey at the national and international level for several years and has an extensive resume of development projects and event coordination within the game.
Her special expertise in hockey development matters, however, remains in the areas of development workshops and club development, development and olympic solidarity coaching courses and youth promotions and festivals.
The Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) is providing support to the GHB in accommodating the coach as well as providing support in the use of its facility at Olympic House for the hosting of the workshop and its provision of accommodation for Romanelli.
The workshop ends today.
