Patrick Prahad with a gross score of 76 and a net 68 won last Saturday’s DeSinco Trading sponsored Golf tournament played at the Lusignan Golf Club.
Prashad, who was edged out by Mike Mangal in the Captain’s last Saturday tournament, made no mistake this time around in securing victory against a field of sixteen golfers that included United States-based players Anwar Shaffie and Ramesh Amrud of Canada, both of whom took part in the Guyana Open last year.
The second position was taken by Chatterpaul Deo playing with a handicap 15. He had a gross 84 and finished with a net 69, while third place went to Bolaram Deo also with a 15 handicap. He recorded a gross 86 to finish with a net 71.
For the second week running Brian Glasford won the Longest Drive Prize.
Rookie Gavin Todd, who was edged out for third place in the Captain’s tournament, bounced back to win the Nearest to the Pin Prize.
The course was in excellent condition despite the recent incessant rainfall around the country.
Padma Prashad, Brand Manager of DeSinco Prading presented the prizes and offered her company’s commitment to sponsor the tournament again next year.
Prashad said DeSinco’s Managing Director, Frank DeAbreu, had a very keen interest in golf.
Also representing the sponsors were Devanand Permanand – Systems Administrator and Stacia David -Merchandiser.
The company also presented each participant with a hamper of its products.
Newly-elected President of the LGC, Mel Sankies, thanked the sponsors and said that the local golfers were due to travel to Suriname this weekend but that tournament has been cancelled because inclement weather in the neighbouring republic.
He said that the local golf season was officially open and urged golfers to support the weekly events.
With the cancellation of the Suriname trip there will be another tournament at the LGC this weekend to be sponsored by a leading hotel, but confirmation of the sponsorship will be known by today.
Meanwhile Patrick Prashad was elected Club captain for 2008.
