A 39-year-old man who verbally abused his wife and son in a public place was yesterday given two consecutive 12-month sentences when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Phillip Baburam of Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara pleaded guilty to two charges of using threatening language to his wife and son on March 5 at the Lamaha Embankment.
According to the prosecution, it was Baburam’s habit to drink alcohol and abuse his family.
After reprimanding Baburam about his behaviour, Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle told him he would have to go and become sober at Camp Street and gave him two consecutive 12-month sentences.
