As La Nina conditions persist, more rain is expected today and residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas are asked to take the necessary precautions against flooding.
A release from the Hydromet Service of the Ministry of Agriculture last evening said that overcast conditions and intermittent rainfall were “very likely” later in the night over Guyana’s coast and Region 10.
“Some areas in Regions 3, 4, 5, and 6 may experience occasional high intensity rainfall and gusty winds, particularly upper reaches of Mahaica, Mahaicony and Abary and East Berbice areas. Rainfall figures may range from 15.0 mm to 25.4 mm in a 24 hours period in these areas,” the release stated.
Earlier this week heavy rains caused flooding in several areas on the coast including the city.
