The cycle of violence continues

Dear Editor,

It is with great distaste that I read that another innocent life has been lost. No one really knows why but we can only speculate as to the underlying motives behind the murder of the sister of wanted alleged criminal Rondell ‘Fineman’ Rawlins. Marcyn King, as it appears in the news, is a hard working dedicated mother of three children whose tranquil world has been shattered with the sound of gun shots. Does anyone know what will happen going forward?

No one knows what will be the response of Rawlins. I believe that it will not be the pursuit of the fiend who committed this murderous act against one of his family members, especially a dedicated mother. Innocent people will pay for this act of violence, there is a trend here, one act of violence will be followed by another, another and another…

The administration needs to send out the social services agents to Marcyn King’s home to ensure that the children are taken care of, including making available counselling services. Also, it is clear that someone and or certain groups want to continue to wreak social disorder on this once peaceful nation and will go to great lengths to fuel hatred among the population.

In an attempt to prevent further deterioration of this situation, the proper authority needs to offer protective services to the family, they need to brief them about their safety and the options which are available to secure a safe future for the remaining families.

I hope this current administration is working diligently to prepare for any retribution from this murder and is making attempts in all shapes and forms to address this tragic loss which can lead to another negative imprint on the history of Guyana.

Yours faithfully,

Tony Ramphal
