National junior champion Nigel Bryan heads a list of some 47 players shortlisted by the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) for the upcoming Caribbean Cadet and Junior Table Tennis Championships which are scheduled to be held in Guyana from April 11-18 2008.
Three categories of players were selected; ‘Mini-cadets’ (10 years and under and 13 years and under), the ‘Cadet’ (15 years and under) and the ‘Junior’ (18 years and under).
Among the countries taking part are Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Santo Domingo, Curacao and St. Kitts.
Assistant general secretary of the GTTA and national coach Linden Johnson, said yesterday that he was pleased with the current talent and performances of the players and was hoping to do more work with the players individually in an effort for the players to be successful at the Championships.
He added that training sessions will commence on March 18 from 8am.
The short-listed Under 10 males are Navin Sankar, Kyle Edghill, Elishaba Johnson, Mahendra Paramond, Obadiah Stanton and the females; Tiara Narine, Analissa, Analisa Branche and Lucianna Jones.
Male Under 13: Denzil Duff, Samuel Fraser, Dellon Mahadeo, Stephen Patoir, Jamaal Duff and Dellon Baird. The lone female player short-listed is Chelsea Edghill.
Male Under 15: Nigel Bryan, Denzil Hopkinson, Denzil, Duff, Dellon Mahadeo, Berachah Garrett, Trean Phillips, Brandon Baldie, Junior DaSilva and Brandon Milner.
Female Under 15: Ambrose Thomas, Chelsea Edghill, Adeille Rosheuvel, Britnee Prescod, Connie Chung, Tricia Watson, Melissa Wilshire, Stephanie Mangal and Cheryl Duncan.
The Boys-18 and under are Darwin Walcott, Nigel Bryan, Warren Hackshaw, Ronaldo Bharat, Dellon Ceasar, Leevon Beaton, Ryan Chin, Remy Rodrigues, Brian Duncan and Leon Persaud. The female under-18 players short-listed are Michelle John, Trenace Lowe, Ambrose Thomas, Tiffany Blair, Angela Rampersaud, Angelina Rampersaud and Varsha Panday.
Meanwhile, Johnson said that there would be an important meeting for players selected and parents tomorrow at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall starting from 5pm. (KB)
