The Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) will be staging the 2008 Mashramani Swim Meet this weekend at Colgrain pool beginning on Saturday at 9am, after it had been planned for earlier this month.
Secretary of GASA Dr. Karen Pilgrim informed Stabroek Sport yesterday that the main purpose of the competition would be to shortlist as many quality swimmers as possible to begin training for the 2008 Goodwill Championships which will be held on August 15-17 in Guyana.
“Although we are not hoping for swimmers to make the Goodwill times just yet, we hope to get a view of the level of performance from most of our swimmers so that they can begin training for the Goodwill Championships in August,” she said.
Pilgrim also said that the rescheduling of the Mashramani meet is a result of the coaches’ involvement in the recently-concluded FINA Coaching Clinic. The clinic ran from February 29 to March 9 and was conducted by coach Gerd Nottelmann of Germany.
“I was very pleased with the success of the Fina Coaching Clinic this year, since I think more coaches benefited tremendously
