Pouderoyen and West Demrara recorded wins in the West Demerara Football Association’s, West Side Cup Round Robin/Knockout Tournament held last weekend.
Pouderoyen’s Clement Brown led his team to an emphatic 6 – 1 victory over ‘Beavers’ while Den Amstel defeated Parika 2-1 in a close encounter.
In the opening game between Den Amstel and Parika, Orlando David gave Den Amstel the lead in the 20th minute but Welton Jordan scored the equalizer in the 34th minute.
The first half ended with the teams deadlocked 1-1.
The lone goal in the second half which shifted the game in the home team’s favour was scored by Keron Ward in the 77th minute giving Den Amstel the victory in the Group `B’ encounter.
The Beavers bit off more than they could chew as they were easily over-powered by the mighty Pouderoyen team in the feature encounter.
The massive win earned Pouderoyen three points and put them at the top of Group `A’.
Clement Brown scored a hat-trick in the 31st, 48th and 55th minutes and his teammates Steve Nelson, Cleveland Walcott and Severn Austin scored in the 29th, 52nd and 78th minutes respectively.
Not even the Junior Hodge’s 40th minute goal for the Beavers made any difference.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals scheduled for Thursday.(KB)
