Venezuelan representatives who will comprise the visiting delegation for Carifesta X were on Thursday briefed on Guyana’s preparations at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release the visiting team including Venezuelan Ambassador Dario Morandy, his wife Corina Morandy and Benito Irady and Victor Andrade from the Venezuelan Cultural Ministry met with Minister Dr Frank Anthony and Lyndon Ross, a representative from the Carifesta Secretariat.
The visitors are expected to tour a number of the venues in Georgetown and its environs where different aspects of the festival will be hosted. Some of the venues earmarked are the Guyana National Stadium at Providence where the opening and closing ceremonies will be held, the National Library, the Queen’s College auditorium and the Sophia Exhibition Centre.
Carifesta is slated for August 22 to 31 and will feature culinary, literary, performing and visual arts, symposia, grand market events and super concerts. More than 16 countries have signalled their interest in participating. Invitations have also been extended to territories outside of the Region.
