Region Three schools are gearing up for the National Science, Mathematics and Technology Fair slated for April 1 to 3 in Linden.
According to a press release Region Three Regional Education Officer Cheryl Chase, in declaring the fair open at the West Demerara Secondary School said the schools are upbeat and preparations are in full swing. In alluding to the theme “Science, Mathematics and Technology – the foundation for national and global development” Chase said one of the objectives of the fair is to build student’s confidence in applying science for industrial and technological innovations. She congratulated the schools on their innovative exhibits and urged them to continue to focus on their goal of bringing glory to the region.
Regional Chairman Julius Faerber in brief remarks at the ceremony noted that the world is moving apace both scientifically and technologically. “We cannot sit back and allow others to file pass us…we have the talent, all we have to do is to harness the resources and get down to the task of building our own confidence,” he told the audience. Pointing to the exhibits, Faerber said the students have shown a very high degree of creativity and dexterity which he said augurs well for the development of the society.
Coordinator Annesta Douglas said the winners would be judged in three categories: oral presentation, written presentation and physical exhibits. Douglas pointed out that the Wales Community high School was able to participate and she was optimistic that it would succeed at the national finals. She gave assurances that the region would be fully represented at the nursery, primary and secondary levels and in each category of the finals.
