Guyana Fashion Weekend to explode at Carifesta

The Guyana Fashion Weekend turns two this year and Carifesta is the stage for this year’s birthday bash.

Sonia Noel, CEO of Guyana Fashion Weekend said the annual event is ready to explode for the second time in Guyana and the bar will be raised.

One of Nadine and Nikisha’s designs that made a hit at GFW.Designers will have the opportunity to undergo more training prior to preparing their collections, a greater scope of designers from Latin America and the French Caribbean region will be invited to showcase their collections and patrons can expect models to be in fine form when they take that strut on the catwalk, Noel stated in a press released issued earlier this week.

Noel says she is looking forward to working with new and exciting talent for the 2008 event. She also expressed pleasure in the countless phone calls she received from persons wanting to be a part of the event in one way or another, adding that she would love to see designers catering more to men, as males are now a lot more fashion conscious.

The local designer now based in Barbados, underscored government’s importance in the inaugural event and pointed out that Carifesta offers them a grand stage to roll out the event. She said Carifesta will offer a broad spectrum of visitors who will be here to “witness the most amazing fashion spectacle in Guyana”.

The designing sisters from Linden who made a huge statement at the first Guyana Fashion Weekend, winning the award for best new designer.Noel said this offers designers the opportunity to broaden their horizons and interact for greater business opportunities. She said Guyana is now a new fashion Mecca.

Guyana Fashion Weekend was staged in August last year at Buddy’s International Hotel and attracted over 800 patrons each night.

While the red carpet event saw the who’s who in Guyana, including ministers of government and President Bharrat Jagdeo.
