Guyana’s Neil McGarrell had a fine all-round performance Saturday night as he led Trinidad Ceramic MerryBoys to the Carib Sunday League cricket crown in the twin-island republic.
His efforts enabled the champions to complete a thrilling 27-run victory over W Connection Wanderers in the day/night final at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre.
McGarrell scored an unbeaten 40 while half centuries by Mario Belcon, Samuel Felix and Aniel Kanhai ensured that MerryBoys posted a challenging 268 for six from their allotted 50 overs.
W Connection Wanderers, chasing 269 for victory succumbed to 241 all out from 49.3 overs.
McGarrell opened the bowling with medium pace and then came back to bowl his left arm orthodox spin, taking 2/31 from 8.3 overs. For his efforts he was named bowler of the match.
Earlier, McGarrell blasted two sixes and three fours in his 40 and added 59 runs with Ken Hazel off the last five overs.
