Ranks of a Joint Services patrol operating in the Mazaruni area conducted a search on a shop around noon on Wednesday and discovered two firearms, one of which was wrapped in plastic and buried.
Two men have been arrested in relation to the find and are in police custody assisting with investigations.
Meanwhile, police have received a report of a shooting incident in the Aranka/Aurora area at Cuyuni/Mazaruni but much information is not available.
Police in a press release yesterday said that the thrust of ‘Operation Restore Order’ is being maintained as Joint Services patrols and other targeted operations continue across the country.
The release said that around noon on Wednesday ranks of a Joint Services patrol in the Warrudi, Mazaruni area conducted a search on a shop where an unlicensed 9 mm pistol was found wrapped in plastic and buried behind the building. A male employee, it added, was found in possession of an unlicensed .38 Taurus Special Revolver. Matching rounds for both firearms were also found.
Meanwhile in the same statement, the police said that the Joint Services have responded to a report received that there was a shooting incident about 18:30 hours on Wednesday in the Aranka/Aurora area at Cuyuni/Mazaruni.
No further information is currently available on the reported shooting incident.
