Several of Guyana’s promising wrist spin bowlers benefited from a one-day clinic conducted by former Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies leg-spinner Dinanath Ramnarine on Friday at the Malteenoes Sports Club ground.
The programme held under the auspices of the Guyana Cricket Board and the Joseph `Reds’ Perreira Sports Foundation (RPSF) attracted bowlers from Demerara, Berbice and Essequibo.
Founder of the `Reds’ Perreira Sports Foundation, Joseph `Reds’ Perreira urged the young players to make full use of the programme while Cricket Development Officer of the Guyana Cricket Board, Colin Stuart, said that such programmes were critical to the Guyana Cricket Board in identifying talent.
Ramnarine expressed gratitude to the RPSF for giving him the opportunity to impart his knowledge to the young players.
Also in attendance were several local coaches including former Guyana and West Indies fast bowler Reon King.
Ramnarine, who played 12 test matches and four one day internationals for the West Indies between 1997 and 2002 was due to return to Trinidad and Tobago yesterday.
Meanwhile, The RPSF will also host another Evening of Nostalgia during the current first cricket test between West Indies and Sri Lanka on Tuesday evening at Le Meridian Pegasus Hotel starting at 19:30 hours.
Former West Indies fast bowling stars Michael Holding and Ian Bishop will reminisce on their illustrious careers.
The programme will be moderated by Perreira.
