GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Ramnaresh Sarwan said he was delighted to be back in the West Indies team and was also backing his form against Sri Lanka in the Digicel Test series. Sarwan, who last played in September 2007, has recovered from a foot injury which ruled him out of the tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa from November to February.
“I’m confident. I’m happy to be back. Obviously I have not played international cricket for a while so this will be my first game back. It is important that I get started as quickly as I can and get used to cricket at this level again,” Sarwan noted.
“I was getting some runs in the Carib Beer Series and I feel eager. The runs I got helped to boost my confidence.
Sarwan has been in a rich vein of form in the Carib Beer Cup, the regional first class tournament, and recently crowned his fine run-scoring with a brilliant 150 against the Leeward Islands. The 27-year-old, who has notched up 4303 runs in 67 Tests, said the West Indies were looking forward to doing well against the Sri Lankans and moving up the ICC rankings in both Test matches and One-Day Internationals.
Despite Sri Lanka’s No. 3 ranking, Sarwan said he believed the Windies would provide tough competition for the tourists.
“Cricket is played with 11 players and everyone needs to contribute to the team’s success and we need to play together as a team to win,” the elegant right-hander said.
“Generally, I believe it is going to be a really competitive series and I know everyone on our side of the fence is really looking forward to it.”
