Two brothers who allegedly inflicted grievous bodily wounds on a minibus conductor were on Wednesday taken before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Randy and Ivor Bennett, 23 and 22 years old respectively, were not required to plead to the charge of unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm to Dwayne Williams.
According to Adrian Thompson, the brothers’ defence lawyer, on March 23 the two accused were passengers of the minibus Williams conducted. An argument arose between Ivor and Williams who subsequently hit the younger Bennett brother fracturing his arm. Thompson said he was instructed that Randy then joined the scuffle to defend his brother.
However, the prosecution reported that Ivor pulled a passenger away from Williams’ bus and this caused a scuffle between the two men. At this point, Randy intervened and began hitting Williams repeatedly with a glass bottle causing him to sustain injuries to the head and other parts of the body.
The Bennetts were refused bail and the matter will continue today.
