Justice Brassington Reynolds issued an arrest warrant in the High Court on Wednesday for a man who was allegedly part of a break-in and ammunition theft at the Guyana Defence Force 14 years ago.
Rodwell Simon, who police found in the interior two weeks ago and brought to Georgetown to face his trial, skipped his return court date on Tuesday and failed to make an appearance on Wednesday.
Simon was indicted on a charge of break and enter and larceny for a burglary committed at the GDF ammunition depot between the period of January 1-17, 1994. He, Ahkantend Castello and Owen Downer are said to have carted off 12, 500 rounds of ammunition from the GDF, property of the Government of Guyana.
Simon is the only one facing trial in the High Court. The case was dropped against one of his co-accused and the other, migrated.
When the case was called two weeks ago Simon appeared and requested time to find an attorney. The judge granted one week and Simon returned on the scheduled date to say that he needed more time. This was also granted and on that occasion, a jury was empanelled.
Simon was expected to return to court on Tuesday but he failed to show and the judge gave him one more day to put in an appearance before issuing the arrest warrant.
