Minister of Local Government Kellawan Lall handed over 35 HIV/AIDS billboards to the Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) of Regions Two, Three, Four and Ten on Wednesday at the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre, a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release said.
This is a part of the ministry’s current drive in plugging awareness of the disease. According to GINA, at the handing over of the billboards the minister said there must be unity to fight against the disease and it is important that the campaign continues to ensure that young people especially are constantly made aware of this deadly disease.
Aleta Peterson, representative of the HIV/AIDS Focal Point, said that in having direct contact with the people the ministry was effectively transmitting the message of AIDS awareness.
The ministry, GINA said, through the coordinator of the AIDS Programme will continue to work throughout the regions and although the billboards are only a small aspect of its work, more will be seen at the NDCs shortly.
