Robbers raid Bush Lot Secondary

-vandalise office

Thieves broke into the Bush Lot Secondary School in West Berbice between Monday night and Tuesday night and stole over $40,000 cash from the headmistress’s office, a landline telephone and school records.
According to reports, the perpetrators ransacked the office, stole a quantity of school records and scattered other records on the floor. They then poured paint on the records that were on the floor, the headmistress’s desk and on a sofa set.
Reports are that the guard did not turn up for work on Monday night as he was reportedly “sporting for the Easter holiday.”

But on Tuesday morning when the “day guard” reported for duty and checked around the building she discovered that the canteen “was broken into two places and she made a record in her book.”
According to sources the other “night guard” resumed duty as his colleague was leaving and he too observed that the canteen was broken into. He then proceeded to make further checks and discovered the mess in the office.
This newspaper understands that he noticed that the two padlocks were open and placed on the grill door.
He immediately informed the owner of the canteen and a senior official from the security company. Reports are that on Wednesday the official sent for the headmistress and she expressed shock at what had happened.
Stabroek News learnt too that the thieves left behind a computer, television set, DVD, VCR and CD player. The culprits also tried to gain access to a vault in the office but were unsuccessful. The money was reportedly removed from a desk drawer.
Police have visited the school and are carrying out investigations but reports are that the matter would be settled out of court.
