Young Achievers reaches West Side Cup finals

Young Achievers reached the finals of the West Demerara Football Association’s West Side Cup tournament after edging Stewartville 4-3 on penalty kicks after the two teams had battled to a 1-1 draw following regulation and extra time on Friday evening at the Den Amstel ground.
Owen Mc Garrell gave Stewartville a 1-0 lead after 17 minutes but Jason Critchlow tucked in the equalizer eight minutes later.
At half time the score was 1-1 and with no other goal being scored in the remaining regulation and even extra time, the game went to penalty kicks.
In the second match of the double header, a power failure at the end of the first half prevented the game between homesters Den Amstel and Pouderoyen which was deadlocked 0-0 from continuing.
The game will be replayed today from 4pm.
