Dear Editor,
I read Frank Fyffe’s complaint about Damon Avenue in Linden being neglected and I have a question to ask. How come there is a Damon Avenue far away in Linden and not one in Essequibo Coast where this great slave leader led his famous uprising? Sure we have a magnificent bronze sculpture of Damon in the Anna Regina town square but there is is not an avenue, road or street named in honour of this great man especially in La Belle Alliance where this uprising took place.
As an Essequibian I am greatly offended. I remember growing up as a little boy next door to La Belle Alliance every Easter Monday there would be large parades congregating at Damon Cross in La Belle Alliance. Could the authorities look into the naming of an avenue, street or road in Essequibo Coast in memory of this great man.
Yours faithfully,
Nohar Singh
