Magistrate Fazil Azeez yesterday issued an arrest warrant for PNCR-1G parliamentarian, Dr. George Norton, who failed to attend the Leonora Magistrate’s Court to answer to a charge of exceeding the speed limit.
This was the second time that the matter was called and Dr. Norton was not present. It is alleged that the parliamentarian on March 24 on the Parika Public Road drove motor car PKK 891 at a speed greater than that specified.
When the matter was called at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on the previous occasion, the court was told that Dr. Norton was performing surgery.
The magistrate had set the matter for yesterday’s date and ordered that Dr. Norton be present for that date. He was not present yesterday and so the magistrate issued the arrest warrant.
The matter was then set for April 24 at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
