Go on Hillary, make my day

Dear Editor,

It is true that the environment we live in will condition our minds to think, act and behave in a certain way, and also shape our perception of how we view life to be.

Your Sunday cartoon of Hillary pointing a gun at Obama is a Guyanese perception of a political challenge and how the response would be during and after elections in Guyana and not in America.
In the US, the electoral process is done in a very orderly way, and of course there will be strong debates and so forth but at the end, the life of the winner is not threatened, nor is there hooting and looting, and burning of tires in the streets. It’s all about diplomacy and democracy.

But I do understand that because we had quite a long exposure to the ways of Guyanese politics, it conditioned our minds to believe that election time is a time of upheaval and chaos and it is reflected not only in your cartoon but in the populace who are so fearful during that time.

Yours faithfully,
Jaheer Jabbar

Editor’s note
It may not be clear from the online version of the cartoon that the pistol Hillary Clinton is pointing at Barack Obama is labeled ‘Race Card’. In other words, that is the ‘loaded weapon’ with which she is trying to derail his campaign while he is clearly confident that he can handle it.
It is, at the same time, a play on Clint Eastwood’s famous line in one of the Dirty Harry films.
