A woman who allegedly had over 200 grammes of cocaine in her possession when police searched her home was remanded to prison when she appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Michelle Gomes of Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara pleaded not guilty to two charges of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Fazil Azeez.
It is alleged that last Saturday at Pouderoyen she had in her possession 230 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. It is also alleged that on the same day at Pouderoyen, she had in her possession five grammes of cannabis. Reports are that on said day, police acting on information received, went to the accused’s home at about 1:15 pm.
She was reportedly on the verandah and upon seeing the police ran into the house. Police ranks surrounded the home and some entered it and the defendant was observed throwing two plastic bags outside. The bags were retrieved and upon checking the substances were discovered. She was informed of the offence and arrested and charged.
She will return to court on April 21 at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.
