Former West Indies all-rounder Mahendra Nagamootoo has been creating waves in the National League division II in Trinidad but his latest effort was not enough to help his team Central Sports win their Carib 20/20 cricket match in deep South.
With a place in the quarter-finals at stake a huge crowd had followed Central Sports to Syne Village in Penal, where they were carded to meet PowerGen Sports.
PowerGen batted first and scored 128 for four with Trinidad and Tobago national players Sherwin Ganga scoring an unbeaten 23 and Gibran Mohammed 21. Nagamootoo’s four overs cost 21 runs and he took one wicket. Central Sports chasing 129 runs at 6.45 runs per over for victory, were restricted to 84 for nine off 20 overs. Nagamootoo was the mainstay of the batting getting a top score of 36 but the others around him failed to lend the necessary support and a serious challenge was never mounted.
