Guyana’s Andre Purlette’s five-match win-streak was halted Friday night by Aaron `Awesome’ Williams who scored a technical knockout over the Guyanese in the second round of their eight-round cruiserweight clash at the Twin River Event Centre, Rhode Island USA.
Williams, who weighed in at 200 pounds, stopped Purlette who entered at 199 pounds at 2:50 seconds of the second round.
Two consecutive right hands from Williams dropped Purlette who recovered at the count of eight only to be greeted by a barrage of punches from Williams that eventually caused referee Dick Flaherty to stop the bout.
The fight was aired on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights.
The 34-year-old Purlette has won 40 fights and lost three in his 43-fight career while the 21-year-old unbeaten Williams improved his record to 18-0 with 17 kayoes.
