You had published a letter by a grief stricken teacher on the death of one of her students who died with Leptospirosis.
According to the letter, the sick student was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, East Bank Demerara (EBD) and Cuban doctors there did not fully understand due to language difficulty. I must say I have gone to the said hospital on three occasions and had no difficulty in getting the doctors to understand me. However, I cannot say the teacher was or is inaccurate.
The student is dead and nothing can be done for him, this letter is about protecting the living ones.
Not far from the Diamond hospital at the northern end of Grove EBD is a school, when the students are dismissed they go to the EB public road where they stand in horse dung and urine for long periods waiting for transportation.
We know that Leptospiro-sis is caused by animal faeces and urine among other things. You see, there is a lumber-yard just there and the animal drawn drays will congregate there to collect lumber. I spoke to the people living in the area and they told me the stink is overpowering yet they would not complain. My concern is for the students, I would not want to hear of the death of another student.
