A three-day camp aimed at bringing Hindu youth together saw the participation of 139 of them at the Bush Lot Vishnu Mandir recently.
The camp was organized by the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangha based at Cornelia Ida, West Demerara. The camp catered for devotees from six to 18-years-old.
One of the volunteers, Praem Rambharak told Stabroek News that the camp was held from 5 am to 10 pm each day and the roster included teaching lessons from the Ramayan, Bhajans, hosting discussions on unity, physical activities, Indian games and Rangoli designs. He said the activities were conducted under the theme ‘Achieve by own efforts’ and managed by seven other local volunteers and two from India: Saumitra Goukhale and Samir Kshirsagar. Swami Aksharananda led the team of instructors.
The Swami visits the Bush Lot mandirs and a few others on Sundays to teach the Bhagavad Gita. Rambharak said the volunteers would return on Saturdays “to follow up what was taught and I encourage other youths from West Berbice to get involved.” He said the next camp will be hosted at the Gay Park Mandir.
