The Guyana Amateur Swim-ming Association (GASA) is scheduled to facilitate an Under-12 inter-club swim meet to be hosted by the Silver Shark Swim Club this Sunday at Colgrain Pool.
According to GASA, Secretary Dr. Karen Pilgrim, the purpose of this meet would be to give GASA a chance to fully assess the junior swimmers in competition mode and in a meet such as this one which only junior swimmers are participating.
Pilgrim mentioned that the competitive spirit among the young swimmers was extremely high and would certainly make the competition exciting to watch.
The competition features some 18 events and is scheduled to begin at 11:30am. Each competitor will be required to pay a registration fee of $100 for each event that participants register for.
Pilgrim added that the GASA had commenced training for the 2008 Inter-Guiana Games (IGG) Swimming Championships which will be held from May 1-4.
The coach will be Sean Baksh.
She mentioned that the postponement of the meet had affected some of GASA’s top swimmers since it had been close to the date of the Caribbean Secondary Examination Councils (CSEC) examinations.
Nevertheless, Pilgrim expressed confidence in the coach and his methods for preparing the rest of swimmers to participate in this year’s IGG.
