Dear Editor,
I am not only encouraged but it is a pleasure to respond to the letters by Mr Leon Suseran captioned “Plan a trip to the Rupununi you won’t regret it” (08.04.01) and “In our own backyards there are jewels waiting to be discovered” (KN 08.03.30).
Myself and family have been attending the rodeo events at Lethem for the past four years. The scene, mystique and picturesque and magnificent views of the mountain ranges are as described by Mr Suseran. It never occurred to me to write about it, but not only do I endorse what Mr Suseran wrote but congratulate him for playing the role of an ambassador. It encourages us to appreciate and love our beautiful Guyana much more.
After rodeo we usually head for Brazil for a few days. On March 31, 2008 a friend volunteered to take us to the Kumu falls. We had to seek permission from the captain in the area and made a monetary contribution as customary before proceeding to the falls.
We trekked along the trails, walked through shallow creeks and climbed huge rocks; it was worth it. Lo and behold, what a sight, there it was, rushing as if to embrace and welcome you and to remind you that this is the land of many waters.
Even a brief moment can become a timeless gift. This gift serves to remind us Guyanese to love our country.
I am embarrassed to admit I have travelled extensively to most Caribbean countries and a few big cities but never made it to our own majestic Kaieteur Falls, this I promise to do.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves that day at the Kumu Falls, our best trip ever. After this there is no further need of encouragement, we are already planning our next trip. Our ecstatic description has been enough encouragement for our friends overseas that will be joining us, God spare life, next year.
We observed around the area of the falls some litter left by some inconsiderate people namely empty and half empty food boxes, and plastic bottles.
We picked it up along with our litter and took it to our place of accommodation where we disposed of it.
Yours faithfully,
Camille Davidson
