Albion Community Centre are the Berbice zone champions after defeating Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) by five wickets in the final of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/ Pepsi/ Carib Beer national Twenty20 competition played at the Rose Hall Canje ground on Tuesday.
RHTWSB won the toss and after opting to take first strike reached 125-8 from their 20 overs with former national under-19 captain Andre Percival leading the way with an unbeaten 37 (2x6s) whilst Delbert Hicks offered support with 32 (2x6s; 2x4s). National spin twins Veerasammy Permaul (3-40) and Devendra Bishoo (2-18) did the damage with the ball for Albion.
In their reply, Albion reached 128-5 from 18.3 overs to complete a comfortable victory with one of Guyana’s 2006 Stanford Twenty20 stars Imran Khan contributing a worthy 40 (2x6s; 3x4s) and Bishoo 27. Ramnarine Chattergoon also chipped in with 23 (2x4s).
Albion will now host Leguan Sports Club who are the Essequibo zone winners, at the Albion Community Centre ground on 16th April in the national semi finals. Despite losing to Albion, RHTWSB will still journey to the semi finals where they will meet the winner of the East Coast/ Malteenoes clash at a venue to be named in Demerara also on the 16th April.
The final of this competition will be played on Sunday 20th April at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
