Three armed men walked into a Kitty hair salon on Wednesday night seeming to be customers but instead of requesting haircuts or trims they pulled guns and robbed the staff and customers.
Jean Julian, who was at the salon waiting to have her hair done, was stripped of cash and a motorcycle which the men used to flee the scene. The motorcycle was found abandoned and in poor shape at the Square of the Revolution yesterday.
The incident occurred a little after 7 pm when the men stormed the salon and brandished guns within minutes of showing up. Julian recounted yesterday how she first thought it was some kind of joke because the bandits were very young and the weapons looked like toys.
“These boys were so little that I had no idea at first it was a robbery and also the guns did not look real but when they got closer and started pointing the guns then I realized what was happening,” she said.
She said the young robbers had nothing but foul language coming out of their mouths and one of them repeatedly threatened to “blow off any face that did not cooperate.”
Four women were in the salon at the time – two customers and two employees. They were told to lie flat on the ground and hand over their bags and jewellery.
Julian said they all cooperated and the bandits fled with their bags but in her case only her purse was taken. She said they saw the motorcycle parked outside the salon and demanded the keys. She handed it over for fear of being shot.
Within minutes the robbery was over and the men were gone. She said police were immediately alerted and an investigation was launched. However it was a relative who spotted the abandoned motorcycle and telephoned her.
The woman though still traumatised by the incident was relieved that she is okay and that the other women in the salon that night were unharmed. Julian said it was her first time at the salon after a friend had recommended it.
