Dear Editor,
So sorry to read about Mr Rupert Williams from East Canje and the “aches and pains” he has had to endure for the past two years or so, particularly as the medical doctors “don’t know what is wrong with him” and therefore, presumably, cannot recommend suitable treatment. Has he tried the hot water treatment? A few years ago, I was virtually in the same position with my right hip joint. I had to sleep in the foetal position; if not, getting out of bed in the morning took a long time and was sheer agony. The medical profession was baffled that physiotherapy and acupuncture did not help, so a consultant recommended a scan, a possible operation (which I was not keen on) or a course of injections.
In the meantime, I went on a transatlantic cruise, and in the hot shower I (innocently) let the water drench the painful joint twice a day, roughly 1-2 minutes each time. On the third day, while reclining, I felt an “un-gluing” – the equivalent of two surfaces stuck together coming apart. The pain eased from then on and by the end of the week it was virtually gone. No longer was getting out of bed in the morning a problem. At home I continued this practice and now I am OK. (I think I mentioned this experience sometime ago).
I think the hot water treatment – if not actually standing under a shower or lying in a bath (of hot water), then towels soaked in hot water and wrung, applied daily to the affected parts, ‘topped up’ when necessary, might help. At least it is worth a try. I would be interested to know, if tried, whether it helps. I can imagine what that poor chap is going through. He is fortunate to have such caring people around and I hope he finds relief soon.
Yours faithfully,
Geralda Dennison
