Rifle shooting

Guyana, the reigning Caribbean short range champions will test their preparation for this year’s regional championships over the next two days when they come up against the visiting London/Middlesex Rifle shooting team in two shooting matches at the Timehri Rifle ranges.

The British team of experienced shooters, captained by Dick Winney with David Robinson serving as the Adjutant is on the first leg of a Caribbean tour. They arrived in Guyana on Thursday evening.

The shooters will compete in an Individual competition today at the 300, 500 and 900 yards ranges.

Then tomorrow the two teams will go head to head in a team match to be followed by a Prize giving ceremony. Starting time is at 10:00 hours each day.
The local line up will include captain Mahendra Persaud, Ransford Goodluck, Richard “Dickie” Fields, Dylan Fields, Ryan Sampson, Claude Duguid, Dane Blair, Terry Stuart and Paul Slowe.

On Monday, the LMRA team who were last here in 1994 will tour Kaieteur Falls before departing on Tuesday for Trinidad and Tobago on their second leg of the WI Tour.

They will then proceed to tour Barbados and finally arrive in Jamaica for the West Indies Fullbore Championship from April 28 to May 4.
Meanwhile, The national Full Bore team is presently seeking funding to attend the Championship to defend the coveted Short Range Team Title they won last year.

They will also be seeking to recapture the Long Range Team title they held for three consecutive years, before narrowly relinquishing it last year to Trinidad by one point.

Captain Mahendra will be defending the Top Individual Title, Ransford will be defending the Bermuda Shield for Top Overall Performance and Richard Fields will be looking to shoot another maximum 150 points in the Team shoot to reclaim the Wogart Cup.
The local side is expected to depart for Jamaica in two weeks time.
