A farmer accused of indecently assaulting an eight-year-old girl was remanded to prison when he appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Michael Rouse of Hubu, East Bank Essequibo pleaded not guilty to the charge of indecent assault and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Fazil Azeez.
It is alleged that on March 14 at Hubu, he indecently assaulted the minor. Reports are that the girl related what had happened to her aunt the next day and the matter was reported. Following police investigations, Rouse was arrested and charged.
In asking for bail, the defendant stated that he was a farmer and had come from the North West District. The matter will continue on May 22 at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
