True to their word after assuming office, the executives of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) recently presented over $400,000.00 worth of cricket balls to its clubs at a simple ceremony held at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) pavilion.
The Guyana Defence Force was also welcomed back into the first division after an absence of five years.
In a brief statement prior to the presentation, Bish Panday told those gathered how pleasing it was for his executives to be making such a gesture at this time knowing fully well the ease same would be having on clubs.
“When we assumed office last year it was evident that the executives had to do their best to make life a little easier for the clubs affiliated to the GCA.
We resolved to pay the umpires fees and will continue to do so for clubs participating in competitions run under the aegis of the GCA,” said Panday.
He further stated” This year we have resolved to do another first and that is the distribution of balls to our member clubs. We wish to ask the clubs to recognize the effort being made by the GCA as we attempt to make life easier and encourage them to continue playing at a high standard which will see new talent unearthing.”
The nine first division clubs attached to the GCA namely Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC), Everest Cricket Club (ECC), Ghandi Youth Organization (GYO), Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC), Police Sports Club (PSC), Transport Sports Club (TSC) and Guyana Defence Force (GDF) each received five (5) boxes of balls whilst Ace Warriors and Third Class Cricket Clubs each received three (3) boxes respectively.
