Dear Editor,
I read Walter Samuels’ letter captioned “Some examples of marginalization for Dr Misir” (08.04.15) in which he listed instances of what he claims are acts of discrimination against Afro-Guyanese, and was impressed at the lack of anything concrete to back up his claim.
He claims “much less” is spent on Region 4, a PNCR stronghold, than in Region 6, a PPP/C stronghold. But how much is spent in each region, Mr Samuels, and on what?
He also charges that Afro-Guyanese in the public service don’t have the authority they should have because of their positions. Is he saying that the mayors of Georgetown, Linden, New Amsterdam, the corporals and other high officials in the army and police, and the numerous managers in the other government agencies, who are largely black, don’t have authority? That sounds preposterous. In order to prove your claim, Mr Samuels, we would need specific examples, not some general claim.
