Auto sales staffer put on bond after ‘repossession’

A 28-year-old auto sales company employee who allegedly stole a car worth $2.8 million was yesterday placed on a bond to keep the peace for two years when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Sean Belfield of 83 Garnett Street, Kitty pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery when it was read to him by Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.
It is alleged that on April 3 Belfield robbed Marlon Blake of motor vehicle PKK 3481. According to the prosecution, on the day in question the accused along with two other men hired the car to take them from Georgetown to Den Amstel.

It was sometime during this journey that Belfield reportedly robbed Blake of the car.

Belfield’s attorney, however, pointed out that his client was innocent of the charge levelled against him. According to the lawyer, Belfield is an employee of an auto sales company, who was instructed to repossess the vehicle from the owner Claudette Blake because she owed the company over $700,000.

The attorney further produced relevant documents as evidence to support his statement that his client had repossessed the vehicle on his company’s behalf by a Bill of Sale filed in the Deeds Registry at the High Court.

Belfield and a representative of his employer, along with Marlon and Claudette Blake were asked to approach the bench and a long discussion followed between the parties. The accused was subsequently placed on a bond to keep the peace for two years.
