The Diamond hospital on the East Bank Demerara (EBD) is said to be functioning effectively and attends to over 100 patients every four hours.
Director Jorge Sugranes made these disclosures to Minister within the Ministry of Health Dr Bheri Ramsaran on Monday, during a routine visit to the hospital to ensure that it is fully equipped and operational.
The Government Information Agency (GINA) said about 300 patients from Diamond and neighbouring communities are treated at the hospital daily. The minister said he was impressed with the staff’s efficiency and urged them to maintain their standards and to ensure that all patients are treated in a timely manner. Ramsaran also looked at the hospital’s staffing system to ensure that nurses and other personnel are on duty during the night to handle emergencies.
The Diamond hospital was commissioned last October 12 and has since treated more than 15,000 patients and performed about 100 surgeries. Over 800 asthmatic patients have also been treated. The Centre has relieved some of the burden on the Georgetown hospital by offering medical services to the densely-populated EBD area.
