Guyana’s World renowned bodybuilder Hugh Ross is pleased with the overall preparations leading up to Sunday’s inaugural bodybuilding classic to which he has lent his name.
Ross, in an interview with Stabroek Sport said that he was pleased with the way the build-up for the competition was progressing, adding that it was his belief that with events such as this one things should be taken one day at a time in the initial stages.
“I believe they (GABBFF) have been working very audaciously to keep the preparations on track and as an event with such a nature, there is a lot to be done so preparations should be taken just one day at a time,” said the 47-year-old ex-captain of the Guyana Defence Force.
“I will be back and forth on that night interacting with fans, on the Master of Ceremony’s microphone but mostly my emphasis will be on the athletes,” Ross added.
Ross also believes that he may be presenting the overall title to the winner.
The competition is set for Sunday at the National Cultural Centre, Homestretch Avenue commencing at 19:00 hrs and is open to athletes affiliated to the Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GABBFF), the local governing body for the sport who has sanctioned the event.
Participants are expected from Georgetown, Linden, Berbice and West Demerara.
And one of the organizers, Dexter Garnett also told Stabroek Sport:“Preparations for the Hugh Ross Classics have been coming along fairly alright and everything is on track.”
Contestants will compete in six no nonsense categories and they are welterweight, light-middleweight, middleweight, and light heavyweight along with Ms. Body Building Open, Ms Fitness and the Hugh Ross Overall Champion.
Competitors such as Sylvon Gardener, who won three Central American and Caribbean (CAC) bodybuilding championship titles, Bruce Whatley, Clint Duke and Mark Anthony are expected to be on show in what promises to be a gala event.
