GNIC reaches 205-9 at close of first day

– Ejaj Mohammed scores half century

Guyana National Industrial Company (GNIC) reached 205-9 at the close of play on the first day of the Georgetown Cricket Association/Cellink Plus-sponsored first division final yesterday at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda.

GNIC lost the toss and were sent in.

They survived overcast batting conditions, batting the entire 90 overs allotted with former national Under1-9 player Ejaz Mohammed scoring a half century while skipper Rayon Griffith narrowly missed one.

This brought Mohammed to the crease.

He played solidly alongside opener Marvin Rajmangal before the latter retired hurt on 24.

Mohammed continued to bat solidly and registered his half century a few overs before the lunch interval taken with the score 101-2.

Upon resumption, Mohammed was caught by Orin Forde at first slip off Jeremiah Harris as GNIC lost two quick wickets.
But skipper Rayon Griffith held the innings together before being dismissed for 49 after batting for 106 minutes and hitting four fours and two sixes from 99 balls.

Left-arm orthodox bowler Damien VanTull bagged 4 – 49 off 25 overs.

He was supported by Danny Narine 2 – 16 while George, Harris and Steven Jacobs grabbed one wicket each.
