A 16-year-old boy who arranged a date with a girl using one of the cellular phones he had previously stolen was caught as a result. He was remanded to prison when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
The teen pleaded guilty to the charge of burglary but could not answer Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle when she asked him to tell the court why he had committed the act.
On April 8 the teenager broke and entered the dwelling of Ngina Gonzales and stole three cellular phones and the chargers, one learner’s computer, three DVD players and the remotes.
According to the prosecution on the day in question Gonzales secured her home and retired to bed at approximately midnight. She arose at approximately 5 am the following morning and discovered the items missing.
The matter was reported to the Kitty Police Station and the defendant was later arrested after the police received certain information.
According to Gonzales the defendant was using one of the phones he had stolen from her house. Gonzales’s niece called the number and arranged to meet the young man at a restaurant for lunch. The police was subsequently informed and the defendant was apprehended at the restaurant.
