Dear Editor,
On several occasions over the last couple of days I have made attempts to activate my brand new phones for my wife and I with GTT service.
On all occasions I was told that GTT SIM cards are not available as GTT have stopped issuing SIM cards. I was disgusted after getting the same answers from various GTT vendors around the city. This hassle prompted me to activate my lines with Digicel. One day after my activation with Digicel, my phone stopped making calls to any GTT number, but calls to Digicel numbers worked fine, my wife’s phone worked fine as well (at least until now).
After contacting Digicel, I was told that the problem lies with GTT and the matter is currently being investigated but with no definite turn around time.
From my readings and understanding, uninterrupted Digicel GTT services were extended to Digicel upon its launching. If this is not the case, I am asking that Digicel and GTT both make it known that signing up for either GTT or Digicel services does not guarantee you uninterrupted calls to and from GTT numbers or vice versa.
I am calling on the PUC and the government to put an end to these practices.
Yours faithfully,
Dr. Baldeo N. Persaud
Editor’s note
We sent a copy of this letter to GT&T for their comments and received the following response from their Public Relations Officer, Ms Allison Parker:
“Dr Persaud’s report of his experience to acquire GT&T’s SIM Card is quite puzzling since we have not stopped issuing SIM cards to our vendors.
It is illogical to think that the item that generates the use of our Cellink service would be withheld from our partners in business – the vendors.
The vast majority of our vendors have SIMS available. It would have been useful if:
(1) Dr Persaud had indicated the names of the vendors approached since this would have allowed us to more thoroughly investigate his claims;
(2) Had visited one of our Business Offices.
GT&T is not aware of any policy or technical interconnect issues that impede any other network from communication with our network. Thousands of others are communicating across networks every minute of the day without complaints. Dr Persaud should continue to demand answers from his service provider about his inability to access the Cellink network.
He also has the option of returning to his first choice provider, by visiting our business office where he can access reliable and efficient Cellink service.”
