Two Guyanese coaches are currently attending the English Football Assoc-iation’s level three coaches course in Trinidad and Tobago.
Bilal Nantambu, who is attached to the West Demerara Football Sub-Association and Devon Bissoon from Bartica, are attending the course being held at the Centre of Excellence in the Twin-Island Republic.
The course, which is attracting coaches from several countries in the Caribbean, started last Wednesday and will run until Saturday.
According to a release from the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) the course is a collaborative effort bet-ween the English FA and CONCACAF and represents the first international coaches training exposure for both Bissoon and Nantambu who have both benefited from football coaches training locally.
Nantambu holds a Masters degree in Soil Science from the University of the West Indies.
While they are both expected to perform well on the FA course, the various clubs with which they usually work expect to benefit in a greater way upon their return to Guyana, the press release noted.
Several Guyanese coaches have secured their ‘B’ license including current national senior football coach Wayne “Wiggy” Dover, Joseph Wilson, Linden France, Paul James, Denzil Thompson and Collie Hercules.
Meanwhile, trials continued over the weekend for the National Under-20 players preparing for the World Cup preliminary competition next month in Grenada and the Inter-Guiana Games in neighbouring Suriname.
Training sessions have started for players drawn from affiliates of the GFF, while a special session was recently held in Florida for players from the United States and Canada who are keen on being part of the local line up for the World Cup preliminary competition billed for May 16-18 in St. George’s, Grenada.
Guyana will oppose the hosts Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the first round playoff.
It was disclosed that another Caribbean team is likely to join the Group.
Wayne Dover has been appointed head coach of the National Under-20 squad with the other members of the coaching staff being Kavin Pearce, Sampson Gilbert and Keith O’Jeer.
