I’m upset at the PNCR leading this protest

Dear Editor,

I could not help but be appalled by the step taken by PNCR leader, Robert Corbin, to spearhead the protests against the suspension of Channel Six. Let us not forget why the station was suspended; they aired, repeatedly, a statement by a listener, that she would kill the President. Considering the level of violence in Guyana, this is not to be taken lightly, and the station showed gross irresponsibility in re-airing the call.

There has to be some kind of action taken in instances like this, otherwise there will be all kinds of violence-inducing and hate-filled broadcasts pervading the airwaves.
My reason for writing has to do, however, with Mr Corbin and the protests he is leading, which prompts the question, why did Mr Corbin not lead protests when the innocent residents of Lusignan and Bartica were slaughtered, in cold blood, by criminals operating out of Buxton. Those murders were much more deserving of protests than the suspension of a television station.

Based on his threat to make Carifesta, “unmanageable”, Mr Corbin and the PNCR seem bent on causing havoc. His latest threat reminds me of the former leader of the PNC, Desmond Hoyte, calling for his protesters to apply “mo fia”.

Again, the PNCR is showing that it is an irresponsible party, interested in disharmony and instability and the retardation of progress. I wonder if the listener had called for Mr Corbin to be murdered, and the government had done nothing to the station,  he would have remained silent, which, it appears, is what he expects from the administration.

Yours faithfully,
Mohan Singh
